Chapters Transcript Video BD Bard Brachytherapy Manufacturing Plant Video Brachytherapy is an interesting uh treatment option because you can deliver radiation within the, within the targeted tumor. So you can imagine external beam radiation, it it affects a lot of other healthy tissue. So prostate brachytherapy allows us to treat the tumor from the inside out. We sell to every corner of the world we sell to, to uh Japan, South Africa, Europe, Russia, uh South America, the Caribbean and the US. The key is every piece has to be identical in size and shape. Small park manufacturing has a lot of nuances to it that people don't really realize. Some of the challenges specifically with Breaky manufacturing are the size of the product that we're manufacturing. The dimensions, the attention to detail required to ensure that the correct dose is being delivered to the patient. We're using automated machinery that is very, very small. Um The precision assembly of inserting a core pin into a titanium tube uh is challenging in and of itself. So we go through rigorous calibrations, daily checks of our iron chambers which are used to measure the radiation. And we have a highly validated piece of automated equipment that makes sure that we assay every single seed and make sure that it's um categorized correctly. So when the technicians pull activities for the orders, they know exactly what they have and they're confident that the seeds that they have are the ones that the customer ordered. I'm very proud part of BD. Uh You know, so we, you know, we take everything very seriously. It's going into somebody's body in the sterile products lab. We, we take the orders that come in from customer service and that's where the rubber meets the road. That's where we actually put our links and our seeds together to deliver the custom dose for the patient in that area. We have separate workstations where the operator can have a completely contained environment where they're focused on one particular order. So they have everything, whether they're making a preload needle, whether they're making a uh ready link product, quick link source, cap free seeds, they can do everything right there. So they have a computer that ties into our planning system. So they can um call up the labels and certificates for that particular order. All the components are right there handy and they can focus on what they're doing. We really know that the product is going to a specific person. So we have so many different checklists, so many different reviewers to verify that we're within regulations, not only just safely but also quality wise. We also need to make sure that everybody can get the product out on the correct time. The timeliness part is, um, you know, we're always against the clock and we have orders that come in today that have to be shipped tomorrow that are implanted. Let's say Friday, whether it's, you know, sales reps in Europe or South Africa, customer service people in Olan or in, in Covington, Georgia, people are dedicated to this and they, they're passionate about it. And if you could talk probably to any one of them, they would show the same passion as the person here who's manufacturing seeds or is checking orders going out the door. So I would think, you know, once you get into breaking and you see the impact it can have on customers and men who have prostate cancer, you're kind of hooked and everything else seems kind of second to that.
